Tenants might not even consider gardening while living in an apartment because too often people think space is a larger requirement than it is. Whether your apartment is 1000 sq ft or 545 sq ft, you can still grow and maintain a successful garden inside. You can even grow and maintain a garden without a balcony! – Who knew?

Sunlight ☀️

To decide what you’re going to grow, you must first consider how much sunlight your unit receives.

  • North facing apartments do not receive direct sunlight and tend to be a bit colder.
  • East facing apartments receive great light in the morning but not much heat since the rays are weak.
  • South facing apartments receive lots of bright light and heat.
  • West facing apartments receive great light in the afternoon, but similar to East facing apartments the rays are weaker by the afternoon up until the sun sets.

Specific vegetables, herbs and flowers require different levels of sunlight and shade.
